Testing Methodology

Suction testing

We measure sustained suction (not just the peak advertised figure) across carpet, hardwood and crevice-tool scenarios using a consistent debris load, and record both Air Watt and Pascal readings where the manufacturer publishes them.

Runtime testing

Cordless models are run from full charge to shutdown on their standard cleaning mode, with a separate timed test on maximum boost mode, to capture the real-world gap between advertised and actual runtime.

Noise testing

We record decibel levels at a fixed one-metre distance on hard flooring, on both standard and boost settings.

Pet hair test

A standardised quantity of long and short pet hair is embedded into a carpet swatch and rug section, then cleared in a fixed number of passes, with pickup rate measured by weight.

Ergonomics and livability

Each unit spends a minimum of one week in everyday use by a member of our team, covering stairs, upholstery and tight spaces, to assess weight, manoeuvrability and genuine day-to-day comfort.

Scoring
